The Word: The Sword and the Bullet

The Word
The Word

This last week when I went to Bible study, I was inspired by a portion of a video teaching.  It really brought a great visual home to my heart.  There were other excellent points in last week’s study, but this was a home run for me.  Let me ask you this question to get your wheels turning:  How often are you in the Word each week?  Once, twice, daily, Sunday only?  Is your Bible a bit dusty?  Do you think it really applies to your daily life today?  Is it just stories to you?  What is your priority in reading the Word?  How important do you think it is to be in God’s Word on a regular basis?

canstockphoto0019485This particular teacher was likening the idea of being in the Word with going out on a walk in rattlesnake country with a gun to protect yourself, without a bullet.  To help you understand this visual a bit better, I want to share that there are other teachings out there that think that you could have time with the Lord walking in the morning, enjoying the sunset, walking the beach or whatever might come to your mind.  You don’t have to be in the Word that often, or maybe even at all.  Now, don’t get me wrong.  You can enjoy a time of refreshing with the Lord that way.  I do too.  I have been given many insights at times that I have walked a beach somewhere. Great conversations with the Lord.  Those are times meant for that purpose.  I am just saying that it shouldn’t take the place of reading the Word.  A beach walk or sunrise may be a way you receive from God, or talk with God, as it is with me, but that shouldnt be where it ends.  He wants us to know His Word so we can be strong and encouraged.

So, fast forward to the meeting up with the rattle snake.  This is a rather loose paraphrase of the visual she shared.  It rears its ugly head, and you say, “Look at this gun Mr. Snake!  Look at this gun!  It can shoot you down!”  OR, “Don’t try that with me, I saw the sunrise this morning!” OR, “You better watch out!  I walked the beach today!”  Now how silly would that be?  You have no bullets in your gun in which to shoot the snake and protect yourself.  Getting the picture?

Now, let’s think if you have a situation where you meet your day, and the devil is really getting in your business.  He loves to do that and make you miserable at the same time.  So, what are you going to do?  You tell the devil,  “I watched the sunrise this morning!” OR,  “You better watch out!  I walked the beach today!”  How’s that going to work for you?  No.  You need the Word (bullet) to come out of your mouthIMG_0463 and speak against that devil!  You carry the Word with you where ever you go, so that, when the need arises, you can speak truth to your situation!  You are prepared!  “You pull that bullet out of your pocket and aim low”, as she said.

I loved this analogy!  This idea was such a word picture for me that it really caught my attention!  Let’s be purposeful in time in the Word.  Don’t be caught without your bullet!  Put it in your pocket at all times ready to pull out and aim at your situation. Walk your days out prepared because you never know when you are going to need it.  Get it focused in your site, don’t look to the left or the right, and let the bullet go!   We find in God’s Word this scripture, “I have hidden your Word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”  Ps. 199:11  That is what we want to be saying!  Let us endeavor each day to see what God has for us to learn, to know, and to activate in our lives.

Don’t let this post make you feel condemnation in not being in the Word, but an encouragement to do more of it!  You will begin to develop a relationship with the Lord that you may have never experienced before, or even thought possible!  His Word is living!  It’s for you today!  I know I have experienced days that it seems like I am having more time than usual, and yet I know that can’t be true.  But it just goes to show that He will help you in your day if you put Him first and be in His Word.  He can stretch those days to meet your needs.  Don’t let the willy nilly of worldly thoughts and relationships be something you apply to God.  He tells not to have any other gods before us.  Think about it.  It is different.  It is important.  It’s a time that belongs to Him and to you.  Enjoy it.

DSC_1010So…go get a cuppa and crack open that Bible.  Ask Him to show you what He has for you today.  Don’t rush…

Do You Need A Little Goosing?

IMG_0114Have you ever been in a position where you followed the crowd or group, and don’t even know why or what it was about it that made you fall in?  A week or so ago, my hubby and I went for a drive so I could take some pictures.  We stopped out by a reserve to watch all the snow geese in the field.  The field was totally white!  I couldn’t get them all in one photo without being far enough away that they were specks.  However, watching those geese whirl around in the sky as they flew from place to place was amazing!  I took some pictures and noticed some things about them as I watched their behavior.

They obviously came to eat and with that many of them, I got such a kick out of the behavior!  If there was one or two that took off for another section of the field, you would see one, and then two and three, and then a group of them take off over to that area.  I mean, if there was something better over there, they were going for it.  Pretty soon, one would take off and the same ritual would take place and a big flock of them would go away from the others to another area.  Now, when the larger flockIMG_0126 took to the sky, it was pretty amazing!!!  I also loved watching their landing gear;  their web feet straight down for ground touch down.  I watched them for quite a while.  Then, all of a sudden, everyone fell in to formation and they were ALL moving in one direction, honking and feeding as they went.  If one was the dreamer type and wanted to experience this movement, it was soon bit or goosed on the hind end to let it know to fall in and quit goosing around!  Or if one was looking to see what the others were doing, the same thing would happen.  They are honking like crazy.  SO noisy, even as they eat!   I had to laugh at it, but then I thought, can we relate to that behavior?

Have you ever strained your neck to see what was going on in the life of another just so you could be in the know?  Are you a dreamer type, and everyone keeps trying to get you to fall in and be like everybody else?  Do you have someone in your life who keeps goosing you to get you to keep moving ahead and paying attention?  Or maybe you are rubbernecking to see what might be better out there than what you have where you are?  I know I have been guilty of some of that.  I have been, and AM, a dreamer and creative person.  I don’t think like others and I don’t always do what others expect.  Then I am the one getting a goose in the back side and sometimes a bit of honking to let me know I’m not doing what is expected.  I have also sometimes been the “gooser” to someone else I thought might need re-directing.  Now I’m not saying we don’t all IMG_0115need re-directing at times.  We do.  We may need that goose to hurt a bit if we are to stay focused on what we are supposed to be doing.  As for rubbernecking?  I have certainly been guilty of rubbernecking and comparing where I am to where others are, or having or not having what another may have.  As for the honking?  Well, some of our conversations can be like honking.  We are making noise but no substance to what we say.  It would be like blah, blah, blah, only honk, honk, honk!  So… it was quite a lesson to watch life happen in a field with snow geese as the teachers.  God will use anything, anywhere, if we listen!

What I decided is, that I have pretty much always been the one to fly to the other spot, or the unknown, and see what I can see and learn what I can learn.  Eventually, others may follow when they see what I have found.  I don’t mind going alone.  I like to explore new places and new ideas.  I believe God made me that way.  So when I fly off, it makes me happy to see others follow; not that I am that great, but that God has used me in some way, so that, someone else sees the benefit of flying over to see the new thing God is doing.  If He takes care of all the birds of the air, and ALL of these geese that fly in, we should never worry that He won’t take care of us, even IF we have to get goosed once in a while!  God, through the Holy Spirit is great at goosing us when we need it!  As I watched the geese move in mass as they fed, most of those geese in the back would have to get what was left when the whole group had gone through it ahead of them.  However, the crowd was pushing them on so they couldn’t get too greedy about eating it all in one spot.

I decided it was pretty awesome to be the one flying in first!  I have the best chance at the good stuff.  I’m doing a new thing and trusting God with new places and experiences.  I’m trusting God with new ground.

IMG_0303Tuck your wings in and walk where God places you to walk.  When it is time, He will tell you.  Then,  spread those wings, tuck your feet and even honk a bit!  But remember, you may have to fly in alone at first, but we know we are never alone, because we have God by our side.  Ask God.  And then…spread those wings, catch some air, and fly!!!!

Life After The Dream

10302697_683810818367171_6463270350335103447_n1.jpgSomeone asked me this week if I was having any doubts about our decision to let our dream of the church/house go.  So, I thought I would share a thought with you about that.  I want to encourage you that there is life after the dream you wanted to have happen, and… it doesn’t.  God is so good about closing doors and opening doors.  He may have closed the door on this dream, but I know, He has other doors for us to walk through.  Do you believe that?  I do.  We have peace in the decision we made.  We believe God spoke, and we followed his leading.

We have an even deeper trust in God and His provision.  We recognize that when we are in obedience to Christ, He WILL direct us in the way we should go.  Do you remember that scripture?  “Whether you_DSC0958 turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, this is the way; walk in it.”  Is. 30:21  The last part says, walk in it.  To me, when He gives us a directive, He knows what is best and so He expects us to walk in that path with Him.  However, He will bless our obedience.  You may be asking the question, “Does that mean that we will immediately be shown something else?”  No it does not.  God’s timing is not our timing.  His ways are not our ways.   He will let you know when you need to step through the next door.  I just wanted to let you know how we are feeling about the “loss” of the dream.  We are doing great.  You know why?  We trust Him.  And…we don’t know what He just saved us FROM!

We would all love to have a Life Guide Book, like a product guide, only, for our lives, wouldn’t we?  Something that shows us what to do and how to do it?  Tells us about each step?  But, we sometimes forget there IS one that will tell us how to live, how to have relationship with Him and those around us, and what we should avoid, and how we need to live out our love for Him on a daily basis.  We have many of those answers!  That is found in our Bibles.  We have them in our homes; some may gather dust.  They aren’t just to bring to church on Sunday my friends.  Some, don’t even do that.  It saddens me to see so many come to the house of God without their Bibles.  That IS our Guide Book.  Carry it.  Expect God to speak through it.  Show the world you believe it enough to carry it with you.  It isn’t that heavy.  If it is, find another one.  The cost of a life lived wrong is much more heavy than that!  Get those Bibles out and carry them with you to church, and in your life as well, so that, you are prepared when you meet someone and can share the Word with them.  Not sure where that came from, but I’m going with it!  🙂  God wants that out there I think!

Listen for His voice.  Get quiet enough to do so and, He will take you places you never dreamed of!  (I think Joel Osteen says that.)

Hearing the Still Small Voice

Church House Colfax, WA
Church House Colfax, WA

A few weeks ago, I shared with you about a dream that I have had for quite a while regarding buying a church house and living in it with the idea of using the chapel/sanctuary for ceremonies, services, bible studies and that type of ministry.  So… I want to share this process with you because I think everyone has times where something comes along that really touches our hearts, and our feelings can quickly want to go there.  We can dream and plan, and plan and dream, but we may be doing it for not.  God has the plan for our life.

My New Camera’s first trip.

So here is what happened.  We decided that we would take a trip over to see it.  We love road trips and it was our anniversary weekend, so we made the plans and left on Thursday.  Had beautiful weather going over and I was taking pictures along the way.  We visited a thrift shop in town and the ladies knew we weren’t from around there and so they asked.  They invited us back any time to come back for a visit.  They would love to see us!  Now that is pretty special!  We went by the property as we went through town just to check, and I had called the agent and set a showing for Friday morning first thing.  After seeing it on Thursday, we were really excited about the prospects and dreamed all evening with our plans.  The bottom line for both of us was, if God chose this opportunity, then He would make it clear.  That was also our prayer Thursday night.

Friday morning arrives to beautiful sunshine and we meet at the church.  The realtor just happened to be a former member and had been raised in that church.  So fun to get some of the history of the church.  It was also generous of the seller to offer all stained glass windows, pews, altar, chairs, tables and organ if the buyer were keeping it as a church/chapel.  Wow!!!  As you know, things of history and antiques are a love of mine and so this got my juices flowing.  Where ever  I turned, I saw light filtering in through colorful windows.  It was just uplifting to walk around the upstairs.  I walked through the sanctuary touching all the pews and the altar and thought of all the goings on there over the years and the hands that built it.  I could see various uses for this sweet little church that had been attended by faithful followers for years.  We went downstairs and walked around and envisioned making it our home, but also, something that could be used for small gatherings and would be something like a hotel lobby decorated with our furniture and things.  I would make the kitchen into a farm type kitchen.  We would be installing bookshelves across the whole back-end of the social hall.  We walked the property line which was quite large and found out that half of the property could be sold if we desired.  That meant we could gain return on the investment of purchase if we chose to have less property with the church.  Yes.  We were intrigued and actually pretty excited about it.

Next?  City Hall.  We talked with them about some of our ideas and what they would allow and not allow.  If we kept it as a church and put another home on the property, would that change anything?  We also found that downstairs where we would make a home, we would have to put insulation and sheet rock on the whole thing; the tongue and groove ceiling also…IF we wanted to live in it.  So now, we are talking about a purchase, then remodeling before we could even move in.  Or, if we were keeping it as a church, moving in a home and living in that home, we wouldn’t have to do any remodeling except to update some things here and there.  So if we live in it, BIG money, if we put a home on the property, we have to have money for the home plus the cost of purchase of the church.  Getting the idea????  A lot of lay out up front.  Quite a big of adventure for us.  The city was VERY excited to have someone interested in keeping it as a church and using it.  We would have total support.  But when we did the pro and con sheet, and talked it all through, and became a bit more realistic for us.  Is this God asking us to depend on Him for something that looks impossible to us?  Or, are we looking only through our own eyes?  So we prayed and decided that God would let us know what to do.

We drove home and discussed again some of the pros and cons, our family and friends at home.  All these things play into the idea of a move; especially in retirement.  God places people in our lives to encourage and assist us along the way.  We would be moving away from that and starting over.  But it could easily be the opposite where God is asking us to make that sacrifice in order to do something beyond what we are thinking.  He may be asking us to make this move, just like He asked us to do that when we moved to Missouri.  Humm… as we drove along in the Lime Squeeze, we had times of quiet on the way home; each with our thoughts about the church and the information we were now armed with.  What does God have in mind for us?

Keeping my focus - 2015
Keeping my focus – 2015

This morning, my sweetie shared with me that during his prayer time, God put something on his heart about the church house.  He felt God told him that we were possibly looking at this in the wrong light.  He gave him some examples, one of which was when satan tempted Jesus by showing Him all that could be His IF He would follow him.  It became clear to my sweetie that this was one of those times.  It looked good, we could have a blast making it into something enjoyed by many.  It would be a great ministry opportunity!  We were full of ideas!!  We both saw it as positive.  But not everything we think is for us, IS.  So we ask ourselves, “Is this a test for us to listen to God in spite of our excitement?  Is the financial aspect a bit over the top given our goals to live the Dave Ramsey lifestyle?”  We have worked hard to live debt free and this situation would put us at a place of riding the edge of a cliff possibly without the assurance of return.  It is about ministry, but you have to pay the bills.  Yes, if it is God’s will, it is God’s bill.  But we feel He made it clear that all that we could do was possible, but not right for us.

So in prayer, we blessed the sale of that little church house to someone who we know God has in mind, and turned our dreams over to Him.  He knows what we need, and He knows the direction He wants to take us.  That means there is something else ahead and only He knows which door we need to open.  We rest in that.   The disappointment we may feel, will be turns into joy as we are obedient to Him.  His still small voice speaks the first thing in the morning to let us know the way we are to go.  I’m thankful that I can live knowing that without a doubt He hears and will speak to us.

I hope you can learn something from our experience.  What looks good isn’t always good.  What feels good isn’t always best.  What dream doesn’t happen at one point, might be because the dream you have had will come to fruition in another way.  Or, He just wants to know you are listening to His guidance.  Hold on to that.  Don’t let go of His hand, no matter how it looks to your head and heart.  We have.  We have peace, knowing He gave us His answer.  We only have to obey His leading.  After all, what good would it do if He tells us what He believes to be best, and we just go ahead and do what our feelings dictate anyway?  Never worth it.  Listen.  Obey.  Move on knowing He has spoken.  He will never let go of your hand.  When we DO listen, it builds our faith also, because we hear, obey and see God work in our lives.  We begin to recognize His voice more and more as we see what our obedience does in our relationship with Him.  Isn’t that awesome?!?  I think so.  I hope you will be encouraged through our experience to trust Him more tomorrow than we do today!

Who Is Valentine’s Day For?

DSC_1010This week I am celebrating all week!  Why?  Because this is a special week in my life…its Valentine’s Day week!  It has special meaning to me.   People think more about love this week than any other week so it is said, but it also seems to bring other emotions to some.  I would say it is less about couples, and more about love.  Showing and demonstrating to the people around you, family, and friends just how special they are to you.  My man and I were to become husband and wife on that special day many years ago, but circumstances didn’t cooperate with us.  So we were married in May instead.  However, we have chosen to celebrate our anniversary in February also!  We do something special every year at this time.  But don’t let the “couple thing” be a stumbling block to how to share your love that day.  Here are a few things to make it fun:

  • Note in your child’s/parents lunch
  • Pay it forward in a Starbucks line
  • Let someone go before you in a line in the store or gas line
  • Sneak a note in to a co-worker to let them know you care
  • Note on the windshield of a special personIMG_2490
  • A phone call, text, card, or letter to let someone know you care; personal touch is best if possible
  • Cookies to a neighbor
  • Invite someone you love out for coffee and tell them how much they mean to you
  • Write a letter or card to someone who has had a great impact in your life and tell them what it has meant
  • A special movie night in your home or meet up with a friend(s)
  • A treasure hunt in your house or office for messages of love
  • Cook a special dinner and invite a friend
  • Write down 14 ways that you have seen God’s love in your life in the first 14 days of February
  • Do something special for your pastor and family to let them know you appreciate them
  • Go visit a shut-in
  • Make a love collage of how you have been shown love lately
  • Starbucks card
  • Go visit your favorite place
  • Take yourself out to dinner

The most important thing is to have fun.  Don’t let the day go by without taking the time to do an act of love.  I get to share some love with a wonderful group of women Wednesday morning and following that, my hubby and I are making a road trip and enjoying a few days away.  I will be using my Valentine’s gift from him; my Fujii XT1 camera!  We will sport our LOVE Tumbers in the car with us.  We will enjoy a few snacks on the road.  Picture taking all the way.  My car should have a sign on it that say, “This car stops for all photo opportunities!”  We will check out a little church I told you about in the last post, and stop where ever we want to stop, and enjoy every moment.  But we are making a week out of celebrating it with all we do.  We are living in expectation of this Wednesday afternoon.  There is something to be said for expectation.  We should live our lives that way every day because God has something in mind for each day He grants us.  I don’t want to miss out on what it is!  I want to jump up and down in the morning, waving my arms, saying, “Here I am Lord!  Where are we going today?”  Can you see that visual picture?  Joy in the journey!  He cares about big and small things as I have shared before and here’s another good example of it today:

We got back home from the accountant’s office and we had to check out something regarding the Lime Squeeze and get the information back to him.   Low and behold, we find in that process that we have been driving the Lime Squeeze with expired tabs since September!!!!  I don’t have any notice of it anywhere in the files.  Now I have been around many state patrols and policemen/women and yet I have not been stopped.  I say that, not in trying to be a smarty pants, but because I believe that God has blinded the eyes of many in order to keep me from having to pay a ticket.  I didn’t plan it that way, but God sure took care of me!  Needless to say, first thing in the morning, I have to go get that done.  But this is just another example to me of how God cares for the little things in life!  He watches over us.

IMG_1095Be crazy celebrating in gratitude this week!  Look over the list above, add some of your own, and commit to do something different this year when that special day comes on Saturday.  You know, with technology being what it is, you can even send a mocha or coffee via the internet and they have it right away to enjoy!  Whatever your choice, I want to wish you a wonderful Valentine’s Day FULL of love, and I hope you make it a great day of sharing your love in action with others.

What Are Your Reminders?

IMG_5563Recently, I read a blog about post-it notes and how this blogger, BecktoBasics, used them in her daily life and how it reminded her of other things she had in her home that were reminders also.  It got me to thinking.  I happen to use them in my office quite a bit.  My whole house is full of thoughts, reminders, encouragement, and love and so I thought I would share some of them with you.  Maybe it will spur you on to share some of your own!  The above photo is one of my reminders that I wear daily.  Pray Always.  My husband has a matching ring that I presented to us for our 10th anniversary.  I put his on his finger, and he put mine on my hand.

Travelers2…Again?

Church House
Church House

Have you ever daydreamed about something, mentioned something to someone, or even had a conversation about a particular dream you may have, and then had some immediate next step options put in front of you?  It is rather exciting to get a few confirmations here and there from those you may have talked with about it.  But, that isn’t where the confirmation needs to come from.  Anyway, that is kind of what happened to me this week.  Let me back track a little to catch you up.

Church House
Church House

One of my dreams I shared with you in my last post was to be able to live in the country.  But another dream I have always had is to find a church that is abandoned and see if we could buy it, or buying one that is for sale, and then live in it.  I wanted to continue to have the chapel part of the church, and use the other areas to make a home in.  I dreamed of small weddings and small receptions that could be held there for a reasonable amount of money rather than the prices some are having to pay for weddings now.  I wanted to offer it as a retreat for leaders or pastors to get-a-way and have a time of refreshing, to someplace they could afford.  Maybe even have a RV hook up or two, and a covered area for a picnic or small gathering.  And my one joy would be to see a church continue to be used as a church.  So there.  Now I have shared yet another of my dreams.

Church House
Church House

Now to catch you up…last week as I was looking for homes around my hometown of Stanwood, Washington for some reason all these other listings were coming into my list of homes for sale.  What did I come across?  I came across a log house church for sale in our price range!  First thought?  Wow!!  I’m IN!!  I just talked about dreams in the last week or so, and now this comes up unexpectedly where it shouldn’t even show up.  It would be country like.  Oh boy!  My mind starts going, prayers go up asking what God has in mind, and my decorating genes kick in!  Vrooooomm!!!!  There are SO many of the details that have come into play with this opportunity.  The kicker?  My family is here.  My friends are here.  BIG one…my grandson is here.  What do I do with that? I have done it before a couple of times, but it wasn’t fun being away from them and Ethan wasn’t in the picture.  I missed them all when I was away.  But as I thought about it, I am also not in the same place as I was at that time either.  I have changed.  However, my heart has also calculated the miles in terms of hours…about 5 hours or so.  That doesn’t seem like that much to me.  I traveled 4 hours to come up through traffic to see everyone when we lived in Aberdeen, Washington.  Have car will travel.

So what do I do with this opportunity?  We talk about it.  We put it in our circle of prayer and pray about it.  My sweetie thinks and contemplates about it.  He is no hurry.  We look at all the pros and cons, and then we pray some more.  Questions like, if something happened to either of us, would we want to continue to live that far from family?  (More my question that his.)  The HARD questions we have to ask.  And, we ask God to open doors that He wants opened, and close those doors He wants closed.  Maybe this opportunity is nothing more than God letting me know He is listening and He doesn’t forget our heart’s desires.  Or, maybe it is another opportunity for us to trust Him completely.  Or, we are to come away for a season of time to do something new that He has in mind.  I can see some great ministry from this sweet spot.  However, I don’t know.  BUT, I know the One Who does.

Church House
Church House

I am the type that has the thing decorated before we even see it.  That’s my personality.  So you can imagine how I have to temper the engines inside me to wait and see.  But God knows that about me too.  Isn’t it great that He understands all about us?  He knows the end from the beginning.  There may be a road trip in our very near future!  If you have a big decision coming in your future, do the work, pray it out, but above all, leave it in God’s hands and let Him work out ALL the details.  He is so good.  It will be just in time, with just the right details.

Today is a raining and cloudy day in the Pacific Northwest but those clouds are also amazing!  They come down off the mountains and joined the land below like wispy curtains over a window.  On top of a wonderful IMG_2240view, I’m headed up to farmland country where there are mountains and barns galore!  Something about that touches something deep inside of me, and not for the first time, my soul longs for country living.

Have you ever dreamed about something and felt like its ok to dream, but it probably won’t ever happen?  I used to feel THAT was as far as it would ever go.  But not anymore.  I have seen God do some amazing things in this life time of mine and I want to keep expecting he can do it again with my desire to move to the country.  But what will that look like to me, and what does that look like for God?  Yes…two different things possibly.  It may also mean not getting to live in the country at all!  There is a reason and purpose for where we are.  However, one of the lessons I am learning is, as in this case, I may not be living in the country as I would like, but I can make where I AM, more country.  I have an environment in my home that speaks to that.  I have things around me that give me pleasure and speak to a lifetime of memories.  I’m kind of old-fashioned gal anyway, so my home environment has always had a vintage feel or country farm-house feel to it.  I grew up on a small farm and loved the freedom of it as a child.  I learned a lot working alongside my dad taking care of animals, feeding calves and milking cows, and slopping the hogs of which we had two.  My house is home to the lantern and scale that hung in our barn for as long as I can remember.  I have made it work in my home and it is just a little more of that “little bit of country” that is so calming for me.

I can remember in school always looking out the window.  It helped me think.  Clarified somethings for me.  But I’m sure my teacher thought that I was day dreaming.  But these days I would say, whatever your dream is, pray over it.  Talk to God about it.  Be open for the changes He may desire to make in how that might look.  I remember telling God that I would be willing to expand myIMG_3255 territory and prayed that every day.  He sent me to Missouri, which I would never have considered on my own! It meant leaving everything and everyone I knew!   So be ready for whatever He has for you and remember it may not look like you are thinking it should.  In fact, it probably won’t!  A piece of advice about dreams that I have found:  I came to the realization that I am not the center of the universe.  Whoohooo!!!  Revelation time!  God is the one that has a plan for me from the beginning and often times the plan He has for me is something I might even be ignoring for whatever reasons.  So, when you think of dreams, think of what you are passionate about and when you do that thing, times flies by and you don’t even realize it.  Pray for God to give you a view of THAT kind of dream and He will guide you to it.  It may seem like you are jumping off a cliff, but His arms are there to catch you.  If your dream seems bigger that you?  Then you know it’s God because we can’t do what we do without Him, or the gifts and talents He has given us.  Dreams do not have to be about a house, where you live, or what you own.  It may be that your family lives for God.  Start praying for those dreams. Don’t give up!  There is always something to learn.  For me right now, that is in being content.  Contentment is peace and that is what I’m seeking EVEN IF I never get to the country.  🙂

I’m learning to be content with where I am.  That means:

  • DSC_0732I DO have a home that is my own, SO THAT, I can and should be thankful for that
  • I live on a noisy corner, BUT I have a view of the tip of Mt. Baker
  • I have to often trade cars around to use them, BUT we have two cars
  • I hear horns honking and squealing of tires in the middle of the night or sirens, BUT I can say a few quick prayers before going to sleep again and we are close to help
  • I live with a kitchen that is not for set up for someone who likes to cook and bake, BUT I do have great appliances that I can use and I can re-organize
  • I may have disappointments, BUT I can pray more about what God DOES have for me yet to do
  • I can have gratitude no matter what

See the pattern?  We can learn gratitude in everything and live in contentment.  Take time to learn what God has for you to learn during your waiting time.  Pray and listen as the Lord speaks to you and allow the words that you hear to bring you into a deeper relationship with the One who can teach us what only He can teach us.

Be prepared.  Be ready.  Something great could be about to happen!

Conversations With Myself

JoAnnWhat inspires you each morning?  When you wake up and you aren’t at your best even AFTER your first cup of coffee, what tickles your senses and inspires you to get a different attitude or a new way to go forward in your day?  Or, do you find that if you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, that it tends to be your feeling all day long?

This morning as I drove to my Bible Study, I was thinking over my last several weeks and I discovered how much better I feel today then say a month ago.  Humm…interesting, self.  I feel better able to cope with most things, and I find joy in the simplest of things.  I have energy.  Usually in my life, that is most of my days because I try to live that way, and if I wake up different I can usually pull myself around anyway.  But of late, I have found that I tend to wake up and feel better from the beginning of my day.  My outlook is better.  Clearer and more directed.  So, what has changed?  Here’s my thought:  As I getIMG_6102 older, I am more in touch with myself and I have become more aware of what I am feeling.  In becoming more aware, I realize that life throws us a curve ball sometimes and our mitt covered hand just isn’t up for it.  There are times when our body and energy level just isn’t there.  For women, it may be that our hormones are out of sync or something along those lines.  In men, it make relate to their jobs.  It DOES affect us.  So I have learned that when I find out about something that helps me with those areas, there is wisdom in making the purchase!  Now I could talk to myself and say something like, “Wow!  That is $20 a month and then means $240 a year!”  But what I have learned is, it is important to take care of our bodies, minds, emotions, hormones, and our brain fog.  You can not put a price on good health and having the “want to” for life.  So…will I complain about the things that bother me, or will I do something about it when I KNOW what I need to do?  I have decided that there is no excuse if I know what will help me.

My car conversation with myself this morning was just that.  I realized that I had started back on my TriVita Sublingual 12 after running out and not ordering it for about 5-6 weeks.  Now after deciding THAT didn’t work very well for me, and saving the money wasn’t worth the fall out, I ordered it again and have been faithfully taking it now for about 3 weeks.  ALL the difference in the world!  Now I’m not here to sell you a product, but I am here to share an idea with you!  Is there something you should do or take to help you in your daily thought life or in your physical life that will make a difference for YOU?  Then by all means do it.  It is called preventative care.  When you are feeling at your best, you will also fight off other cold and flu symptoms because your body is operating more at optimum.  You will handle your daily life differently too.  So what about YOU?  Do you need to take Vitamin C?  Vitamin D?  What about using essential oils like Lavender at night to help you sleep better?  I know that I am at that age where sleep can happen for me or not… and then there are other factors that make sleeping more difficult too!  Snore…snore…from the other side of the bed.

I hope you will let my revelation be a wake up call for you.  What “something” do you need to consider that will help you get back your feeling of well-being?  I followed that whisper I got to do what I needed to do and boy what a difference it made in all the areas of me!  Ask yourself how you are once in a while.  It’s scriptural; “Why are you downcast oh my soul?”  Then, take care of what you need to do to make that happen in your life.  Be aware.  Be proactive.  Take care of the temple God gave you.  There ARE benefits to talking to yourself sometimes!

Are You Satisfied With Where You Are?

Dance
Dance like no one is watching.

Happy January my friends!  I hope you have settled in to your new year and have a sense of expectation about what this new year will bring!  As I read over my hearts from my Gratitude Jar on New Year’s Eve, I was once amazed at all that the Lord had done!  Amazing!  It brings so many areas into perspective, and it once again, has changed who I am.

I have made some pretty drastic decisions at the beginning of this year.  My title question is, “Are you satisfied with where you are?” is a tough question for some to answer.  Did it bring some stirring to your soul?  Did you stop to ask yourself that question once you read it?  What was your answer?  There are two sides of the coin regarding that question for me.  I am satisfied in what God is doing in my life and lessons He is teaching me, however, I am never satisfied with where I am spiritually.  I will always want to move forward, learn more, apply more, press in more, and especially never be satisfied with where I am, but ask God to continue to take me where He wants me to be.  We can see the turn in the road ahead of us, but we don’t know what is around the corner.  I am always trusting that, just like I shared last time about God going with me wherever I go, He will lead me where I need to go if I will follow Him and trust that HE knows best for me no matter how it may look.

What have I been up to in my decisions for this year?  I felt the pulling of the Lord to get off of Facebook.  There are many reasons for that but suffice it to say, I do value my privacy when it comes to online.  I think there is also way too much time that I was spending there that He wants me to use for other things.  I did of lot of ministry and encouragement, which is my passion, but there are times that I felt God was telling me that it was becoming first in my life.  Now, did I go off of social media completely?  Pretty much.  I also closed my Twitter account and my LinkedIn account.  I now have anKey Moments Photography account on http://www.weme.com and I have loved the privacy and the ability to generate positive comments and posts.    And do you know what? I feel quite free!  I have more time and have accomplished so much more by not feeling compelled to check into all those things through out my day.  Even good things can pull us in directions that pull us away from God and HIS agenda for us. I’m happy about this change in me.

I am also working in areas of shedding unnecessary things from my schedule.  I want to have a soul at peace and our souls are not at peace unless we are making our schedule allow time for nurturing our soul.  I am doing that everyday and that makes a big difference in my response to my day.  Busyness is the downfall of so many things and we think we can’t change it because that is just what life is for us right now.  But it doesn’t have to be.  When the soul isn’t nourished and on center, we can start thinking wrong thoughts and go ways which are NOT best for us.

Another area that I have made changes is to change things in my home and streamline.  I am sharing things with others, give away items to Goodwill, and clear out the clutter.  Oh what a feeling!  I have done a little each day and quite pleased with the results. God doesn’t want us to live in clutter and chaos.  It’s hard to relax when we live that way.  He wants us to enjoy the life that He gives us if we are willing to make some sacrifices.  That’s right.  It takes sacrifice to make the changes that I have made or that you need to make.  But when we are obedient to what God asks of us, He will bless the results.  He will help us to let go.

IMG_5522So, ask yourself the question once again, and then pray about what lesson God may have for you.  I don’t feel I write the posts for not.  I believe when God lays something on my heart to write about, it is for someone; sometimes a reminder for myself, and other times for someone out there.  I pray you will take it to heart and do what you need to do.  I want to always be moving forward and never be satisfied with where I am until the time when Jesus takes me home.  Does that mean I feel pressured to always be at it?  Be the best at everything?  Nope.  I rest in His unchanging grace and ask Him to make the ride with me and advise my direction.  I hope you will too!
